The C-Tick mark:
The C-Tick mark is a compliance trademark registered
to the ACA by the Trademark Office and indicates compliance with the
EMC framework.
NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSEMBLERS OF PERSONAL COMPUTERS:
Assemblers of Personal Computers (PC) equipment and
their customers need to be aware of regulations which have been in
force since 1 January 1997 to control Electromagnetic Interference
(EMI). Computers sold after this date must comply with the
information Technology Standard AS/NZS 3548 (equivalent to
International CISPR 22 and European EN 55022), which limits
electromagnetic radiation from these devices.
WHAT IS EMI?
EMI is the unintended radiofrequency emission from
electrical and electronic products which has the potential to
interfere with the operation of other products. Common examples of
EMI are computers interfering with television reception or
telephones.
EMI is a nuisance, however the effects of EMI can be
extremely hazardous where interference occurs to emergency services,
air traffic communications and other safety of life services. The
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Framework has been put into
place to reduce the occurrence of EMI.
WHAT IS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) ?
"Any equipment which has a primary function of
either (or combination of) entry, storage, display, retrieval, transmission,
processing, switching or control of data and of telecommunication
messages and which may be equipped with one or more terminal ports
typically operated for information transfer".
IT equipment is required to be compliant to the
appropriate EMC standard and should be labelled with the C-Tick
mark.
ASSEMBLY OF PC's:
If the assembled PC is built using compliant and
labelled parts retesting of the finished product is not required.
However, the complete PC should be labelled with the C-Tick mark. PC
assemblers need to register as suppliers with the ACA for approval
to use the C-Tick mark.
As from 1st January 1999, ALL products must
comply with the appropriate Australian Standard and may no longer be
marketed without the C-Tick label. marketing a noncompliant product
with a label is also illegal.
ALL Bluechip Infotech Registered Products are marked with
the C-Tick label.
